None of this is a default setting of rocky planets. It is a particular history. When we ask if we could live somewhere else, we are asking whether we can rebuild pieces of this history with machines.

Keeping this world livable is now also an engineering problem.

What we do not know yet. We still learn how the magnetic field, climate, and life keep making each other possible.
